Quality and environmental management Vent System Project OÜ follows the principles of the ISO 9001 certificate.
A transfer grille is an air transfer device used to move air between rooms without using ducts. While standard ventilation grilles are connected to the supply or extract ductwork, transfer grilles are installed in doors or walls to equalise pressure, prevent slamming doors and maintain the designed airflow pattern in the building.
Transfer grilles are installed between corridors and rooms, between offices, in doors of plant rooms, server rooms, storage areas and other technical spaces. They allow air to flow from rooms with supply air to rooms with extract air and help the ventilation system in Estonia and other Baltic countries work according to the design.
Door transfer grilles are mounted directly into the leaf of an internal door and are commonly used in offices, small technical rooms and service areas. Wall transfer grilles are installed in partition walls or masonry walls and are better suited for larger airflows in warehouses, production halls and bigger technical rooms.
The size of a transfer grille is selected based on the required airflow and the available free area of the grille. The goal is to keep air velocity through the grille low enough to avoid noise and draughts. If you provide the airflow rate and opening dimensions, we can calculate the appropriate transfer grille size and recommend suitable models.
Transfer grilles and ventilation grilles with louvers are usually made of aluminium, painted steel or stainless steel. Aluminium transfer grilles are lightweight and corrosion-resistant, painted steel is robust and well suited for industrial and storage areas, while stainless steel is used where higher hygiene or durability is required.
Adjustable ventilation grilles allow you to change the airflow direction and, to some extent, the volume, which can be useful during commissioning. Fixed-louver grilles provide a stable free area and consistent airflow pattern and often offer better visual screening. In practice, the choice depends on the project: sometimes a combination of both types is used.
Any transfer grille creates an acoustic and air path between rooms, so it cannot provide full sound or odour separation. Where acoustic performance is important, special double-bank or sound-attenuating transfer grilles are used. Louvers help to block direct line of sight and reduce light and sound transmission, but do not replace a dedicated sound barrier.
Basic door transfer grille installation is relatively simple if the opening is cut accurately and the grille is fixed according to the manufacturer’s instructions. For projects with higher fire safety, pressure control or critical ventilation requirements, we recommend using professional installers to ensure correct free area, airtightness and reliable long-term operation.
Ventilation grilles tend to accumulate dust over time, so they should be inspected and cleaned at least every 6–12 months. In most cases, it is sufficient to vacuum or wipe the louvres and visible surfaces; if necessary, the grille can be removed and cleaned more thoroughly. Regular cleaning helps to maintain both appearance and airflow performance.
Our main market is Estonia, but we also supply transfer grilles and ventilation grilles with louvers to Latvia and Lithuania. Delivery times depend on stock availability and order volume: standard sizes are often available for quick shipment, while special dimensions and large batches are delivered according to an agreed schedule for your project.
