Air handling units

Ventilation and air conditioning units (AHU)

Ventilation and air conditioning units (AHU) are central supply and extract systems that prepare and distribute air in industrial and commercial buildings. They provide air filtration, heating or cooling and heat recovery, helping to maintain a stable indoor climate in warehouses, production halls and logistics centres with low operating costs. We supply industrial air handling units with EC fans and BMS-based controls for projects in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and help you choose the right solution for your specific project.

Modern ventilation units for industrial facilities provide stable air exchange, energy savings and comfortable conditions for both employees and equipment. Unlike “point” solutions, one properly selected unit can serve an entire warehouse, production hall or logistics centre.

Key advantages:

  • Stable indoor climate. Maintaining temperature and humidity within specified limits helps to meet process requirements and occupational safety standards.

  • Energy savings. Units with heat recovery use the heat of extract air to preheat supply air, which reduces heating costs in Estonia’s climate.

  • Reliability and service life. Industrial-grade components and correctly calculated airflow ensure operation without overloads and frequent shutdowns.

  • Air filtration. Installing filters of the required class protects people and equipment from dust, smoke, aerosols and other contaminants.

  • Integration with building systems. Units can be integrated with a BMS, operated according to schedules and sensor signals (CO₂/temperature) and allow flexible air volume control by zones.

A ventilation unit (air handling unit, AHU) is the central module of a supply and extract ventilation system. It takes outdoor air, conditions it and distributes it to the premises, while at the same time removing exhaust air.

Main stages of AHU operation:

  1. Outdoor air intake.
    The unit takes fresh outside air through an air intake device.

  2. Filtration.
    The air passes through filters where dust and other contaminants are removed to protect people and equipment.

  3. Heating or cooling.
    If necessary, the air passes through a heater or cooler to ensure a comfortable temperature in winter and summer.

  4. Heat recovery.
    In units with a heat recovery device, heat from the exhaust air is transferred to the supply air, reducing the load on the heating system.

  5. Supply to the premises.
    The conditioned air is supplied via ductwork to production areas, warehouses and other zones, while exhaust air is removed by extract fans.

Thanks to automation, the unit maintains the specified parameters, regulates capacity and can operate in different modes depending on the schedule and load on the facility.

For a ventilation unit to operate efficiently at your facility, it is important to consider not only the air volume, but also the purpose of the rooms, the operating mode and indoor climate requirements. A poorly selected unit may consume excessive energy, generate noise or fail to provide the required air exchange.

When selecting a ventilation unit, we take into account:

  • The type of facility: warehouse, production hall, logistics centre, retail or office complex;

  • The room volume, ceiling height and layout;

  • The required air exchange and the necessary overpressure/negative pressure in different zones;

  • The need for heat recovery, filtration level and permissible noise level;

  • Installation options: inside the building, on the roof or in a dedicated ventilation room;

  • Integration with the existing ventilation system and the building management system (BMS).

It is enough to send us the floor plans or a short description of your facility in Tallinn or any other city in Estonia — we will select several suitable ventilation unit models, prepare a preliminary cost estimate for the equipment and installation, and offer the optimal solution for your needs.

Frequently asked questions about air handling units (AHU)

An air handling unit (AHU) is the central part of a supply and extract ventilation system that brings fresh air into the building and removes stale air. It filters, heats or cools the air and ensures a stable indoor climate in warehouses, production halls and other industrial or commercial premises. Without a properly selected AHU it is almost impossible to achieve the required air exchange and comfortable working conditions.

A fan only moves the same indoor air around the room, and a typical room air conditioner mainly cools one room or zone. An AHU works with outdoor air: it cleans it, conditions it and distributes it throughout the building via ductwork. It is part of the building’s technical systems, not a stand-alone household appliance.

The most common types are supply and extract units, units with heat recovery, rooftop units and special solutions for clean rooms and the food industry. The right type is chosen based on the building’s purpose, required air volume and installation options. We help you choose the best option for your project.

Heat recovery means that the energy of the warm extract air is transferred to the cold outdoor air through a heat exchanger. In the Baltic climate, where the heating season is long, this significantly reduces heating costs, especially in large warehouses and production halls. In most cases, a unit with heat recovery pays for itself in around 2–4 heating seasons.

The selection is based on the volume and use of the rooms, the number of people and machines, the operating schedule (daytime/24-7) and the required temperature and air quality. Using this data we calculate the airflow and pressure and propose suitable unit sizes. If you send us drawings or a short description, we will prepare a concrete recommendation and budget figure.

The price depends on the required airflow and pressure, the presence of heat recovery, filter classes, level of automation, brand and configuration. The final budget is also affected by the complexity of the duct system, installation location and requirements for BMS integration. That’s why the price is always calculated for a specific project.

The exact price can only be given after analysing your requirements, but in general compact units for smaller premises start from a few thousand euros and large industrial systems cost more accordingly. After receiving your enquiry we provide a free preliminary calculation and a detailed quotation for equipment, installation and commissioning.

Our main markets are Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. We supply air handling units and turnkey solutions for projects in these countries and, for larger sites in cities like Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius, we can arrange an engineer’s site visit. The terms are agreed individually as part of the enquiry.

Lead times depend on the specific model and stock availability. Standard units are often available from stock or with short delivery times, while special solutions are made to order. In our quotation we always indicate the indicative delivery time as well as installation and commissioning schedule.

Yes. Without regular maintenance even a high-quality AHU will lose efficiency and may fail. Maintenance typically includes filter replacement, checking fans and controls, inspecting heat exchangers and measuring key operating parameters. For industrial customers we offer maintenance contracts with fixed visit intervals and priority service, ensuring reliable operation throughout the year.
